''PRINCESS OF PERAK'' NATIONAL COSTUME TO BE SHOWCASED IN MOSCOW

Thursday, October 17, 2013 – Kuala Lumpur: Gleaming with patriotic fervour, it was a proud moment for the Miss Universe Malaysia Organization (MUMO) and all present to witness the introduction of the Official National Costume to be showcased by Carey Ng who will vie for the “Best in National Costume” subsidiary title next month at the 62nd Miss Universe Pageant in Moscow.

The “Princess of Perak” National Costume was dexterously conceptualized by famed designer Syomir Izwa in tribute to our Malaysian culture and heritage. The costume is reminiscent of the glory of the Malayan Sultanate; featuring style with an elegant hint of history. “I was inspired by the stories of the Perak Princesses who once ventured into the battleground alongside their male counterparts. Incidentally, Perak was the only state in the Peninsula where women wore pants. Women empowerment and equality existed even then. And we wanted to accentuate that,” said Izwa.

Along to lend a hand in underscoring Malaysia’s heritage to the world was Air France KLM, who deemed it was crucial that Carey Ng’s participation on an international scale be given due prominence. Air France KLM has undertaken the task of accommodating Carey’s safe journey to Moscow and seeing to her comforts and conveniences. “Apart from the upper echelons of beauty being a reflection of our brand values of premium quality and style, we look upon our participation as a gesture of friendship and support towards promoting nationalistic pride. Air France KLM is right by your side and what’s dear to you; is dear to us,” said Air France-KLM’s Country Manager for Malaysia, Estee Ng. MUMO is clearly making a pronounced effort in making a presence on an international front. According to its officials, the organization has been bent on raising the bar and unrelenting in its quest for discovering new talent amongst Malaysians.

Among others present were pageant mentor and advisor, Elaine Daly, and Air France KLM officials.
